Hi,

I am having insurmountable difficulties trying to get my Radeon card to work with this motherboard using the Via 266 chipset.

This is a Radeon 64 DDR Vivo card.

I just upgraded my motherboard to a Soltek SL75-DRV double data rate board. (The exact same problem happens when we try the Epox 8KHA motherboard, too.) It uses the Via 266 chipsets. I have upgraded the BIOS to the 2nd revision, which as of Sept 15, 2001 is the the newest.

I have 512 MB of DDR RAM, an IBM 75GXP hard drive, an Adaptec 2940 SCSI card, and a Yamaha 4260 SCSI CDRW and Toshiba 32x SCSI CD player, a Creative Labs Soundblaster Live! card and Realtech 8139 NIC. My monitor is a 19 inch NEC MultiSync FE950+.

When I boot into Windows 2000 the system will freeze SOLID after only a minute or so, and often immediately if I open a program like Outlook Express or try to resize a window. This happens at any resolution.

I have installed all of the W2k service packs. I have tried several of the ATi Windows 2000 drivers, starting with the official 3102 drivers. I have also used the latest Via 4.33 drivers. None have worked.

The only drivers that let me work problem free are the generic Windows 2000 VGA drivers from Microsoft. It will also work correctly if I boot into VGA mode after using the F8 key at boot up.

We have also formatted the hard drive and reinstalled Windows 2000 to see if it would help, but it still freezes the PC in the exact same manner!

Please help! I love my Radeon card and want it to work with this Soltek motherboard.

Have you tried the AMD/Win2K AGP patch?

The above link points to the AMD AGP driver, which you don't want. Look for the patch on the right of the screen, "Microsoft Windows® 2000 Patch for AGP Applications". (Sorry, but it's not linkable).

Would you like a Quarter Pounder?
No, thank you. Just give me the BIG heatsink. It's an Athlon.

This is from the license agreement notes, "This issue is independent of system chipset and has been observed when running Ziff-Davis 3D Winbench? 2000 and Mad Onion 3DMark? 2000 in benchmarking mode".

Just to be clear, I was talking about the Athlon/Duron AGP patch which could be found at the link I provided. I was not implying that you should use the AMD Chipset driver that was the central focus of the link. (In fact, you should not use it). I could not link directly to the patch.

I have a 300 watt power supply so that isn't the problem.

And the system just hangs, period, I don't need to run any benchmark at all :(
