For some reason, the frames I am achieving seems terrible, not sure if those are normal frame rates, but considering I have a friend with a HD6870, but Core 2 duo E6600 OC@3ghz, I'm betting this is just another terribly optimised game.
I mean, sure u have a big world, a lot of people, a lot of buildings and cars at speed, but I've seen this done better before in games like GTA IV.
I'm not sure if anyone has a different experience with the game or if a Nvidia GPU will do much better in this game, if so comment about it. right now, I feel frustrated because this game actually looks a lot worse than Shift 1 on the same rig

Here's some screenshot:

I don't have the game and haven't tried it yet after Shift 1, but the texture in the screen shots looks all so fuzzy and blurry.
I'm pretty sure it's supposed to look better even at medium.

That's what I was expecting......sigh...
Looks worse than Dirt 2 and Dirt 2 gives me far better frame rates and frame more fun at this point

Yeah, did a little googling and found out that graphics IS worse than Shift 1. Many people refer to it as a "console port" as well.

DiRT 2 looks really good. Not as good as DiRT 3 but, the menu interface was far more appealing to me in Dirt 2 than in Dirt 3.

Agreed, I like Dirt 2 more than Dirt 3. the UI feels friendlier

And I had a hard time adjusting the steering options and such sorts, to best suit the driving in the game.
While in Dirt 2, I had no troubles at all. (PS: I'm not using a controller).

I just bought the game today, I'll see how it runs on my Athlon XP 3400+ 1.8ghz, with a GT220 1gb video card..

Reply to gostumpy

Answer: Horribly.

I'm getting 15ish FPS normal, and down to 6-8FPS in some areas... Pretty much unplayable :(

Reply to gostumpy

turn off the texture filtering
leave all other settings the same and rerun bench on all 4 cores 3.3

see how that works
hopefully your FPS will jump dramatically
especially the min FPS
if so then crank up other settings especially texture resolution
I think the game would look better

Just my opinion I could be wrong.........

I'm running at 1280x800 resolution.

All details maxxed:
8.8 average FPS.

All details at the lowest:
12.8 average FPS.

Bleh.

Reply to gostumpy

It's just the game I think, I thought I found a site that says patch that boost Radeon cards dramatically in this game, but turns out to be for Shift 1 ........
GTX 470s seem to be able to max this sh!t out though.........WTF......

Try lowering the resolution then. :)

If I lower the resolution any further the game isn't fullscreen? Does that mean I need to lower the resolution of my desktop to match?

Reply to gostumpy

Gotta love how asking the question quite often triggers the answer... LOL!

So I lowered my resolution to 800x600 on the desktop, lowered resolution to 640x480 in-game, all details minimum, and my FPS did increase! 0.1FPS :(

640x480 Minimum Settings = 12.96FPS average. Minimum 3, Maximum 19
1280x800 Minimum Settings = 12.85 average. Minimum 4 Maximum 19
1280x800 Maximum Settings = 8.8 average. Minimum 0 Maximum 13

:pfff:

Reply to gostumpy

Woah, that's a real increase.
What about your drivers? Are they the latest?

ur problem is u have a GT220, u should be able to pull much better frames with a GS450 since it seems to work fine with nvidia card, dont then again ........dont bother

the game is just a terrible console port, so I dont think it's worth spending cash on.
on the other hand, u're gonna need more CPU power to push games even if u have a HD6850.

Consider BD when the desktop chips come out late this month

Your Athlon XP 3400+ will surely bottleneck a HD 6850. Get a better CPU.

Guess I forgot to include the rest of my build, oops!

New computer should be assembled by friday:

Antec 300 Case
Biostar TH67+
Intel i3-2100 3.1ghz
XFX Radeon HD6850
8gb G.Skill Ram
Corsair CX430V2 PSU

Should be able to run anything, albeit not at max settings :)

It will run a bit better, indeed. But don't forget i3 is not strictly a gaming CPU, it's a dual core, but it'll do, for this game.

It's a dual core, but with 4 threads,
matches the Phenom II x4 in gaming

+1 Greghome
2100 ranked really well for gaming in CPU gaming charts on Toms
matches some of the first gen I7s for gaming performance
great budget cpu for gaming

For budget gaming, maybe, but I'd still go with a real Phenom II X4 versus the i3 any given day.

Reply to Eldd

While I agree having 4 real cores is good
if you look at the I3-2100 versus the 965 BE
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/102?vs=289

it is a good fight between them at stock clocks
and the 2100 will beat the 955

and remember with the 2100 you will have a 1155 board that
can be upgraded to a 2500K which will demolish any AMD CPU

While you might be right there, the gaming experience will not be so extraordinarily different between same-class Intel and AMD, to convince me to switch over to Intel. Well, not yet. I may sound stupidly sentimental here, but all my CPU's starting back in 2000 were AMD's. And I was able to play the games just fine, and I am still able to, and high quality too. But since AMD offers more than enough quality at a better price, for now I will stick to AMD.

Oh dont get me wrong
AMD is great
I am seriously considering a Phenom II X 4 840 build soon
you can find them around $75 or even cheaper on a good Ebay bid
a 3.2 quad core for $75
That is awesome

But the reality is that Intel clock for clock (disregarding price)
dominates

Lets hope Bulldozer (whenever it comes out LOL)
evens the playing field
it would be awesome for Intel lovers if Bulldozer is really competitive
since Intel would drop their prices

And BTW I had an Athlon XP 1800+ that rocked back in the day
would OC like a beast and destroyed anything that Intel had at the time
along with a PNY FX 5500 128mb LOL

For the record I hate fanatical Fanbois LOL

I go with whatever the best performance for the money at the time
I do have some favorite brands
but logic rules
For example I only buy Logitech mice and keyboards
just personal preference
but there are plenty of good mice and keyboard makers out there
just price vs performance I like Logitech
doesnt mean I would insult Razer or others

True, I never said and never will say "Intel/AMD sucks," ATI/Nvidia is fail," and so on. I just always bought AMD's cause the price/performance is better than in the case of Intel, but that's all there is to it, not just some idiotic fanaticism. In the past, for example, I have always used Nvidia cards, this is my first ATI card I am using and I am just as happy with it, as I was back in the day with Nvidia. So I could be using an Intel tomorrow, one never knows :)

Reply to Eldd

Lets hope Bulldozer is worth the wait
Will be better for us enthusiasts if the CPU market was more competitive
