Ok... So I bought all the components and now I need to configure them... AMD's web site is down so I couldn't get the CPU specs there. I need to know the voltages to set and the multipliers... I have 2 sticks of Micron Ram 266mhz 256Mbs and 2 sticks Samsung 266mhz 256mbs, what's the best way to set the CL? ect. I'm sorry to bother you all.. but I can't find it anywhere else.. so I figure why not get it from someone who knows?

All the DIMMs are registered, I assume? You can't use 4 otherwise.

Yer gonna love this MoBo!

Easiest place to start is go to BIOS setup screen and select SoftMenu III then just adjust the top setting for 1400(133). Leave the other stuff at default to start and you will be fine on voltages and multipliers.

Next, find the settings on the other pages that pertain to your video and set them for what you have (PCI/AGP, 4X etc.)

Then when you get your OpSys installed, follow the instructions in the back of the MoBo manual to install the service pack (4-in-one drivers) and AGP miniport driver.

Then install your expansion cards one at a time....

At the ABit site (www.abit.com.tw) they have a "common Questions" link (not the FAQ) that will offer some decent helps.

After all that, then experiment with the stufforz you might read about here and from other places...

Hope that helps!

Yea this board kicks ass!....i have the kg7 with a 1.2 ghz athy...one thing you must know is ....your bios revision...whatever you do...try your best to flash tbe bios on the board before you install windows because this board hates micron chips!!.....i had all sorts of problems until i downloaded the latest bios....crashes, wouldnt load windows 98, boot failures etc....but after applying the new revision poof they are all gone and it runs like a champ....

the bios aims towards better ddr memory support....i really suggest you download it and flash....
if you have never flashed before it is a joke...
just make a bootable disk by going to run and typing format a: /s
now you just download the zip file containing the new bios revision and the .bin file and text file....unzip just the awdflash.exe file and the kg7.bin file to the bootable disk....and go to your bios and set to boot from floppy ....when the computer restarts youwill be in pure dos mode....
now type in awdflash.exe and it comes up and then it will ask you to enter the new name of the bios (write this down before you start the full name ie. kg7_4j.bin...) and type it and and it will ask if you want to keep your old one and say yes and it will save to floppy....then it will flash it ...bang you are ready to go problem free... =-]...

yea and i hope those memory modules are all registered or else you wasted your money because thye have to be registered dimms....

like theguy said before me the board is a jumperless board and you dont need to set the voltage or jumpers just flash the bios and go into the bios and make sure that everything is set up like you want and fire it up and install ur stuff...
good luck!!!!

In my post, I had overlooked a caution... mixing brands of RAM. It can be a sticky wicket. Maybe start with only a single brand installed and then when you are stable try adding in the other brand....

Also, I think I read somewhere the system might stumble if you try to run 4 sticks of CL 2.5 RAM set to CL=2.

Happy 'pootin to ya!
