I am in real trouble. My wifes computer is acting up ere is the problem
When ever she (or I) plug a USB flash memory device into the computer usb port, the computer reboots. If it is a new USB flash memory device (eg brand never plugged into the computer), the computer goes through the process of identifying the device as a USB memory device and appears to start to install the drivers and then reboots. If it is a device that has been connected before, then it reboots immediately. I can connect her Dell Media player or a USB hard drive (pocketec 80G HD) and they work fine. In fact, if I connect the USB HD first, most of the time connecting the USB flash drive will work ok but not if I reboot. I have tried 3 different flash memory devices and they all do the same thing. Just started doing this yesterday. Nothing new has been installed in weeks. The system is.

Well, I wouldn't rule out the possibility of a virus infection, but it's more likely that your USB controller is corrupted for some reason. To confirm this, check Device Manager to see if it reports any problems. If so, address the problem by reinstalling the driver(s) needed. I'm pretty certain, however, that you'll have to reinstall your chipset driver.
If that doesn't help, update your antivirus software, then perform a scan with System Restore turned off.
