Will this motherboard use Regular DDR ram if I only put 256 sticks inside? or does it absolutely need Registered memory?
Also do the new bios support any kind of overclocking like possibly running a 150 MHz FSB?
I don't really need to overclock an Athlon MP setup, but if the motherboard has the capability I might entertain the thought. I'm also curious if this board is specifically good for one thing, or if its good for a multitude of things. I would use the machine for Video editing, photoshop, DVD "backup", and eventually 3D studio max and maybe Maya. I'd also play some games on it like Quake 3, UT, Half life engine, and anything new coming out.
My tyan thunder k7 would only let me put in one 256 pc2100 that wasn't reg. Any more than that and it wouldn't post. Once I bought reg. ecc memory all was good and I'm now running 1gb or pc2100 ddr reg. ecc. It's not that much more expensive. Go to http://www.crucial.com put in tyan as the manuf. and put in your board and it will tell you which ram you need. It's only around $43 per stick last I checked.
