Why won't Need for Speed Underground 2 load?

I go into career mode and the game won't load, I'll go to a garage and it will go to a loading screen, but will never load. Sometimes it will. Then I could go to a race and the game will go to the loading screen, but even still, it doesn't load. I'm using the right CD to play, it isn't scratched. I've also tried re-installing many times. Can someone please help?

Windows 2000 Professional SP4 (No intention of upgrading)
1GB RAM
96MB Video Memory
40GB HDD
Intel Pentium 4 clocked @ 2.80 GHz
DirectX Ver. 9.0c

Try getting a patch for it, if there is any. I got the same game but a friend has it right now.
