My wife got me a Chieftech Dragon Mid tower case, and a MSI KT4V M/B for Christmas, I was more excited over the case than the M/B, with all of the features it has, its a well built piece of engineering genius. I was all excited that I had gotten everything early, before Christmas, and went to work assembling everything, you know how we computer addicts are. Well everything went smooth on the install, until it came time to hook up the CDROM and the CDRW to the secondary IDE port, which MSI had installed at the far end of the M/B, away from the 5 1/2" drive bays, which left me with my 18" cables about 2" short of being able to hook up, if I used the slave connector on the cable. Why the heck do all the ribbon cables put a 6" distance between the master and slave connector on the cable, there should at least be an option to be able to buy specialized cable lengths, and there probably is I just don't know where. If I only had 3" between the master and slave connectors I could have hooked the thing up. I'm a little disapointed at where MSI put those IDE connectors, its the first time I've run into this situation. So heres the solution, not as simple as it sounds though, but do able, I relocated the slave connector on the cable, tested it and it works great, problem solved, I'm happy, thought I'd pass this little tid bit of info along. Merry Christmas Ryan.

Wow, I've had that problem on full tower cases, but not on a mid-tower. Glad to hear you were able to work around it. Some more info for those interested, I have seen some 24" rounded IDE cable over at NewEgg.com.

the problem is that ide cables can only be so long before they loose signal and I have a chieftec dragon case also, it is only like one inch shorter than my friends full tower, she is a beast. and so heavily modded by me ahhh I love that case treat it well

well I'm sure those optical drives will come... And yes he can just use that IDE to SATA adapter, but it will cost a lot of money.

Hey you all you musta missed this part, I was posting the problem and the solution to the problem, just so if anyone ran into the problem they could solve it themselves, relocating the slave connector has worked excellently, with no problems with transfers at all. You just need to be extreemely careful, and accurate in relocating the slave connector, using a smooth face vice will give equal pressure to complete the closure of the connectors parts. Also small precision screwdrivers are excellent for carefully unlocking the cliplocks on the slave connector so it can be removed, in the first place, I want to express extreem accuracy if you attempt this, you've got to get the connector aligned perfectly on the press through contact pins or it won't work. Merry Christmas
