Unable To Log On

Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.perform_maintain (More info?)

Lately, my computer has been acting funny. Whenever I input my password
and click log on, it logs on and shows my desktop for a split-second,
but then automatically logs right back out. If anyone could please give
me something to do to fix this, it would be greatly appreciated, as I
have many important documents that I do not wish to lose.
