Just a Trivia Question - Why is I2O gone?

A few years ago, I read about this great future mobo technology called I2O ( Intelligent Input/Output) that might double or more PCs performance and take care of the device drivers chaos. I never heard about it ever since and I’m just curious, what went wrong. The official site of the I2O task force is saying the TF is not active anymore. Does anybody know what happened?

I must admit that i've never even heard of it (At least i dont remember -> Proves nothing though but usually this indicates that someone has been using a bit more money than needed
