4550 hangs with win 98 se

Hi
I restored a old Presario 4550 with Windows 98 SE. Now at a sporadic point
it wants to freeze. However the mouse still works. It just wont go any were.

Sometimes if you wait a bit it will return to normal. Other times you can
c/a/d/ and restart. It will list various program not responding. Not always
the same ones.

There is no conflicts showing in device manager and no irq's of note sharing
were there might be a conflict. In fact there is one irq free.

There's nothing large or unusual on this system. Only additional programs
installed are ms messenger and yahoo messenger. This is usually a internet
system only.

Any help appreciated

I never could get 98 to run reliably on my old 4550, so I went back to 95.
