i recently bought an ecs k7s5a mobo w/an Athlon 1000mhz 266 OEM processor. installation was a snap. i got the mobo up and running the first time. when i installed WinMe all the bios settings were set to default. my cpu bus was 100mhz and my dram bus was 100mhz. so i was running at 750mhz. so i boosted the cpu/dram bus both to 133mhz. when it was booting up i saw that the processor was 1000mhz. i was extremely happy. the system ran fine until all of a sudden windows started to give me errors and lockups! i was pist off! i kept trying but nothing. then i set the cpu bus bak to 100 and the dram as 133. but my processor now runs at 750mhz. y does windows crash when i put my processor at full speed? here's my specs...
ECS K7S5A w/1ghz Athlon266(running on 750mhz cuz of lockups)

TNT2 m64 32mb

Thanx for the help.

Might be your Power Supply not sending enough juice to your CPU or insufficient cooling from your HSF.

See a real naked pic of Britney Spears <A HREF="http://www.geocities.com/stick_e_mouse" target="_new">here</A>!!!

What kind of power supply do you have there. These boards are very picky about what kind of Power supply you use.

If it works for you then don't fix it.

I would agree that it is your power supply. I have a K7S5A also and if set my CPU at its 1.4GHz rated speed I get errors while playing video games and surfing the web. If I lower it down to 1050MHz it is just fine. I have a generic power supply. Also this board has some issues with Windows 2000 that are addressed in the most recent BIOS relase (09/01 I think). So there might also be issues with Windows ME. Just another area to look into. Hope this helps.
