Get the SiS735, not the KT266A chipset.

I think it depends on what you're looking to do with the motherboard. Not many overclocking features on the ECS board, but it is one of the best performing chipsets for AMD processors. The KT266a is currently the best performing chipset for AMD processors, but it is relatively untested by the consumers and there could be compatability or stability issues that we don't know about yet. Crashman consistently veers away from Via chipsets, because his experience (not being sarcastic) has been consistently bad and currently recommends the SiS735 for it's price/performance ratio and excellent stability. Crash, please respond if I'm putting words in your mouth or misrepresenting your views. FWIW, I personally had problems the K7S5A and an Eagle GeForce2 MX400 video card (I ended up returning the mobo) and will purchase a board with either the KT266a or nForce chipset.

Damn double posters...

There are, to my knowledge, four mobos currently available with the KT266a chipset:
1. Epox 8KHA+
2. Shuttle AK31a
3. MSI K7T266 Turbo Pro2
4. Gigabyte GA-7VTXE (found this one today on Pricewatch.com)

I recommend the shuttle ak31 version 3.1 with the via kt266a chipset. I was able to get my memory to run at 150, which my old mobo wouldn't do. Games run much faster. You may not need a video card upgrade with this chipset. It has adjustments for the cpu multiplier, fsb, and ram voltage in the bios. No raid though.

I'm running an Athlon 1400 on a K7S5A with no problems. I really like the board so far.

Someone mentioned they had problems with this board and a GeForce2 MX 400. I have that same card and I've been fine.

SiS735 is well tested chipset, but why havent Asus and MSI and Gigabyte used it yet? I guess Asus A7Sxxx is coming, earlier has the 730 chipset.

But KT266A looks promising. But... the with the same VIA southbridge!

not sure about other boards, but the MSI KT266 (and KT266A) boards doesn't use the 686b southbridge... it uses the VT8233, which doesn't have the compatibility problems with the SBLive (so I've heard)...

I just checked and the Epox KT266/KT266A boards also use the VT8233 southbridge...
