Battlefield 3 Specs

Hey guys, I was just wondering if I should upgrade my video card for battlefield 3? I was thinking of a nvidia 460 or something of the sort for around 100$ (the card is re-certified)

My specs are as follows:
Asus M3A78 Mobo
Phenom 9550 Quad core 2.4 ghz
Nvidia 9600 GT 1GB
250 + 500 GB Hard drive
4GB Ram
Windows 7 64 Bit
1680x1050 resolution

If you are going to get a re-certified card Id go to EVGA and get something better than a 460. Maybe a 550 Ti or a 560 Ti. . . At that res you could probably come close to maxing the game out. At least run everything on HIGH with AA and AF.
  2. Really? I ran bf3 through a proxy server today and played the first level of the campaign and it would crash after 2 or so minutes, I suspect its either a cpu or gpu problem as it was after I shot a few ais.

O current specs are not good ...that video card is not ceritfied for BF3. I was saying with a new 550 ti or 560 ti you would be more than good to play BF3.
  4. what card do you reckon i'll be best off with? My budget caps at 150 or so, but I'm leaning more towards 100-120$ mid range cards, as I'll only be using this computer for 8 more months or so. Asus has a nice 550 ti for 100 after a rebate, or I could go for a ati 6790 for roughly the same price. Also, i've had this question lingering around in my mind for some time but is there some performance drop when using amd/nvidia intel/ati combinations?
  5. Why only another 8 months? Are you looking at a re-build / new machine? If so why wouldn't you re-use your new card.
Buying a new card now for only 8 months seems like a slightly false economy to me?

Are you sure about the 550Ti being better than the GTX 460? As far as I know the GTX 460 out performs the 550Ti.

    Here:
    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-550-ti-gf116-radeon-hd-5770,2892-6.html

This will show the GTX 460 768MB out performs the 550Ti.
  7. There are two GTX460s 1GB at the moment that you can find them at 124$ (MSI HAWK 780Mhz, near 560 performance) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127518 , and at 129$ (ZOTAC 720Mhz) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814500202
Edit: I think HAWK is the best option. At these o/c speeds (780Mhz Hawk vs 675Mhz stock) combined with this price 124$ is pure steal!! But I guess thats why is out of stock :P.
  8. I have been playing it for about 7 hours now at 1080P on a GTX580. I run it on Auto settings and it puts it on High with Ultra detail. I would go with EA's recommended specs. GTX560 or 6870 would get you decent graphics. Anything less it may work, but not as good as you want it to.

Don't make me laugh :)), 550 ti/560 ti close to max out bf3?!? =)) Even if u SLI them I doubt they can max out bf3 (maxing a game means u play it in fullhd, v-sync on, AA, Af maxed... etc). In 150-200$ range there's not much to get for performance, maybe a gtx 460.
  10. I'm using a Radeon HD6850, and I run 1650x1050 resolution with almost everything maxxed (16xAA) but no vsync on.. I'll try it tonight with vsync on >:)
  11. ^ You aren't running it in Ultra. I did notice it only supports AA x4.

    ^ +1

First learn what maxed out means and only then use this phrase in your comments.
  13. Whoops, sorry guys. Multiple mistakes... 16x Ansotropic(sp?) not AA...

I just opened settings, and saw everything on high, assumed it was maxxed.

Look at his resolution before I make you laugh ......on my seondary computer which has an i920 at 4gigs and a 560 ti at 1920x1080 I am running the game on high everything with AA and AF at 40 FPS. Since your eye cannot detect higher than 30 this is actually pretty close to MAXING the game out. If i dropped it to his resoltion I would almost garuntee being able to max it ....

Yes I see it now, but u r still funny, there's no maxing out at 1680x1050, u don't even know what maxing a game is but u troll around, post a pic in game with the fps on so I can believe u, high is not ultra if u know what I'm talking about, but I guess u don't, even a gtx 570 will hardly max out bf3 :heink: . So please, don't speak nonsense.
  16. Hey st4rkill3r, if all our monitor can display is 1680x1050, then that IS maxxing the game out on our computer.

Please oh please learn to use 'you' and 'you're' instead of u and u r... Gah.

    Oh, and:

    LOSE THE ATTITUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  17. There's no attitude, it's not my fault you can play only at 1680x1050, when you play a game at 1900x1200 you get other options to set your graphics, options that are not active in lower resolutions, so basically you don't max the game, if you play it at low it's not same s*** as high or ultra. Another thing, BETA is not the same as the actual game, which is a lot more demanding in graphics. Now I hope you and your friend understand what I was talking about.
  18. Ok, if there really are settings that I don't know about because I can't go above 1680x1050 due to my Monitor, then I'm wrong. How could I know that?

And I didn't play BETA, this is for the real game :bounce:

This is completely ironic/moronic ...... MAX settings is ultra aa/af enabled. You are a moron stating resolution matters then because your 580 GTX isnt maxing this game either based on your logic

As EA stated at 2560x1920 you need 2 580's in SLI to MAX the game ...since this is a valid option for some people, Apparently you cannot max the game at 1900x1200 because higher resolutions are supported and exist. Due to this fact ....1900x1200 isnt a MAX resolution..

Also please tell me what settings I cannot turn on in DX11 due to lower resolutions?

MAX settings actually means MAXING the settings at the resolution native to your monitor. You are a hypocrite and a moron. I guess this MAX settings is determined by the MAX settings your computer can produce? 1900x1200 is MAX according to whom o GURU of video cards? You because thats what you run? Thanks for playing
  20. And why are you so acid? I don't see what's your problem kid? You could state your opinion civilized and not like a suburban animal. That was my opinion and if u had something to add you could have done it with better words. Anyway we deviated from the topic of this thread. Bottom line is that you can play bf3 with a gtx 460 in good conditions.

-English would be awesome ......I dont even know how to answer the question "why are you so acid?" Or "I don't see what is your problem kid?"

    +Who has the attitude?!?
+What options magically become available at 1900x1200 that are not available at 1680x1050?

Furthermore when I told him a 560ti would be close to max settings with his set up at his stated resolution you said you were LOLing that my statement was stupid. You stated even SLI'd 560 ti's probably would not come close to MAXXING.

So my last post was to see what MAX settings are since they are not 1650x1050 because 1900x1200 is a higher resolution. I then said you were a hypocrite .....please answer my questions of GURU of MAX settings . . . you brought the attitude I kept you in check.

To the OP at your said specs a 460/470 or 6850/6870 would be awesome upgrades.

so out of the two, the msi hawk 460 or sapphire hd 6850, which would be my better bet? (thanks for all the replies by the way)

Nice choices ..... the MSI 460 is an awesome card possibly best cooler available and the Saphire is also awesome. Do you have a preference on ATi vs Nvidia ....or which game would you want more? I could go either way as I do not prefer one brand over another.
  25. I think i'll probably go for the sapphire, lower power draw and also i dont have another molex connector for the 2 molex to 6 pin for the 460, unless i could just use one of the molex connectors
