BF3 resolution problem

please help. every time i try to play bf3, my screen goes black and says not compatible resolution. i can still hear music and all but screen is black with that message. i cant even go to settings and change it!!! anyways to change it on origin? if i start origin and click bf3 window, the screen goes black. if i could change the settings without going in bf3 would be nice.

i dont want to reinstall because i did it 2x already. im using sapphire cypress 2gb hd5870 on a 1080p monitor. desktop resolution is good at 1080 @60hz.

Try Alt+Tab to run the game in windowed mode. See if that helps.

even in windows mode, when ever i tab to the game, in full or windows mode, screens turn black says, not compatible mode. recomend 1080@60hz. i dont even get a chance to click anything.

Maybe try to change it in the settings.ini file, if there is such a thing in BF3.

Solved it. I was using the lastest 11.10 driver for bf3, but for some reason it just doesnt work for my hd5870. screen always goes black. reinstalled the 11.9 drivers and everything is working like it should now. 11.10 driver works fine on my other pc with a 2gb hd6950. Maybe a bug with the HD5000 series.

Hi Guys,
I am having kinda the same problem using my Samsung 21" LCD. It says the optimum resolution is 1600 x 900 @ 60Hz but doesn't give me a chance to change settings. I just updated the drivers of my Zotac GTX 550Ti to latest version but the problem is till persisting.

go into the ini files and change the rez manually. you must change the ini files in your game save folder as they will over ride the 1 in the game install folder.
as for the op. there is no issues with the latest bf3 drivers from ati...

Thanx HEXiT... I found a more non-conventional solution too. As Gman450 mentioned above, pressing alt-tab minimizes the window. However, if i re-expand that window, I got some time in which to change the settings and operate at the 1600 x 900 rez range. Funny thing is, I got to to play and all but the monitor still displayed the same error message a few times before I could play the game without any hitches.
