I am having a problem booting my 1700T running Windows ME. The system
flashes the Compaq and then the ME screen then goes into the boot menu:
Normal, Bootlog, Safe Mode, Step-by-Step. Running Normal or Safe Mode only
restarts the process with the same end result. Running Step-by-Step it runs
fine until the msmouse.vxd file is loaded then it recycles.

Despite changing the boot order in Set-Up to the CD-Rom drive first, it
won't read the ME install disk. Any suggestions.

What happens when you skip loading msmouse.vxd?

Same thing when I say No on msmouse.vxd

Occasionally the system will boot but then shuts down when working. It
appears to be motion (movement of the notebook) that causes it. I guess it
must be a hardware problem. Not surprising, this makes three for three for
Compaq.

Sounds like a similar problem I had with the same system (well, similar
system - 17xl262) - it turned out to be the motherboard. (Un?)fortunately I
purchased an extended warranty for it and the mb was replaced free of charge
within 3 days.
