nForce... hype or reality?

Back in early June, all the talk in the media seemed to be about the new hot chipset, nvidia's nForce. At the time, nvidia claimed to have a running example on the chipset running on a micro ATX board. In fact, a whole slew of motherboard manufacturers had "running" examples. The future for AMD processors looked bright indeed, and I was anxious to see some results.

Of course, the projected release date has come and gone and we've seen nothing. This is certainly nothing new, release schedules for new hardware are about as reliable as casino gambling. If I always got mad when a new product didn't meet its projected deadline, I'd live a very angry life.

What DOES frustrate me is the complete lack of ANY updates regarding this upcoming product ever since all the hooplah in early June. I haven't been able to find any information regarding the nForce chipset on any web site throughout the web since June! Oh I've seen passing comments and comparisons done with it, but no new information at all. None from the supposed motherboard manufacturers, none from nvidia, none from hardware news sites. Nothing at all! Not even a new expected release date.

So what's going on here? Has there been an unknown issue with the nForce chipset that's prevented manufacturers from completing their products? Will the chipset ever be released at all? Is there perhaps a licensing issue with Microsoft preventing the nForce chipset from being released before the X-Box hits the stores? I'm extremely frustrated with the lack of information! I've been waiting over a year to upgrade my computer because I didn't feel that there was any significant reason to. This supposed nForce chipset had me excited, and I was finally considering upgrading to a new system. But now I'm just annoyed... it seems like the nForce chipset will simply be another also-ran by the time it finally makes it to market.

Give them time. What would you prefer, an unstable, flakey mobo with immature drivers or something that's gonna work with most hard/software with few troubles? I'm waiting for this mobo too before I upgrade too. :(

It's not as much an issue of time as it is an issue of being kept in the dark with no clue what's really happening. I've found that a couple of online stores are already offering nForce boards for sale (from MSI), but these boards are not available to ship yet because they don't exist. If you go to the MSI site, there's no mention of this board anywhere. Why is everyone (nvidia, manufacturers, etc.) so afraid of broaching this subject?

i find mobo makers are very quiet about new boards until they know they wil be shipping quite soon, they dont want people to stop buying the old boards i guess.
