WIN Me & parallel ports

Win Me sees the lpt port in device manager, get printer not ready message, cant find printer!! Reloaded driver, changed cable (bi-direc), tried another printer (epson stylus 700)no joy. Can print from DOS!! But not in windows. Tried everything in the Me troubleshooter. Using ECP in BIOS.
HELP !!

Is your printer ECP compatable? Try a different setting in the Bios and or Auto if it is an option.

Are you sure the printer cable is good, if you have attached two different printers but use the same cable you haven't proven anything yet good or bad.

Have you cleared all the printers in the printer folder and then installed the the new printer by manually selecting the drivers from the disk ( I assume you have the correct drivers for the printer) via "Add Printer".

If you have done all that then I would go have a beer, several actually, and start over.
