Hi,
Im putting together a new system that currently has only a Western Digital,
10,000RPM SATA hard drive, floppy drive, and a Plextor SATA CD/DVD RW.
I want to install a new OEM version of Windows XP Home Edition sp1 on the
hard drive using the CD drive. As a novice I was hoping to find a tried and
true simple yet complete set of instructions for doing this. After several
google searches and questions posted to "tech" forums I still am in the dark
about where to begin.
I was hoping someone here may have a good link or two to share on the subject.

If your controller is not natively supported then you'll want to boot the
Windows XP CD-Rom. Then *F6* very early and very important (at setup is
inspecting your system) in the setup to prevent drive controller detection,
and select S to specify additional drivers. Then later you'll be prompted to
insert the manufacturer supplied Windows XP driver for your serial ATA
controller in drive "A"

If you wait and then S to specify additional drivers, then it may be too
late as Windows XP Setup at this point may have already assigned the
resources your drive's controller is wanting to use.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.
