I want to connect 2 computers to a ADSL.
I've been told :
U need 1 comp. with 2 net cards and an ADSL modem.
The other comp. with 1 net card (no modem).
Connect the 2 comps. with cables... and u can be on the internet in the same time - is this true ?
You must install Internet Connection Shareing on the machine running 98 or better.
The computer running Internet Connection Sharing must be on for the other machine to connect to the internet.
And you use a crossover cable to connect the two comps.
Is your ADSL modem internal or external?? If external does it connect via USB or ethernet??
There are other possibilities but I need a little more info first.
I aint signing nothing!!!
Edited by Rick_Criswell on 09/13/02 10:17 PM.

Ok your best solution would be to purchase a 4 port switch such as the Linksys EZXS55W . Plug your modem into the Uplink port.
Install 1 nic or ethernet card in each computer and plug each computer into the switch using a regular Cat 5 cable.
This will allow either computer to be on the internet without having both computers on.
"ICS" is a network protocol by microsoft that allows one computer to be a DHCP server. This allows one computer to be connected to the internet by modem and all other computers connected to it to also access the internet by going through it. Although it can be hard to set up properly and can be resource hungry.
