Via 266 or AMD 761?

Which will be better for me? I use the comp for games, internet and school work. I'll be using a 1.2 T-bird. Last time I checked the AMD 761 was on top but I hear things may have changed. Is this true? If so what's a good board in the pricerange of $100-140?
