hi guys, I've got a question. A friend of mine wants a computer for his birthday and I was thinking of building him one. Buring my head in so much AMD setups etc. I've kinda lost any info on intel . So, basically I'd like to know what is the most current and stable chipset intel has to offer for the PIII (or itanium..I believe that's the new core from 1.2 on up, correct me if I'm wrong). I'd also like to know which motherboard manufacturer such as IWILL, Epox etc. is highly stable. Overclocking features aren't much of an issue becuause it'll be his first computer. Here's what I have in mind...
Atx Case
PIII 1ghz or 1.2 ghz not sure yet
mobo (don't know which one)
Geforce2 Pro video card
56k modem
256 pc133
40 gig HDD
stock fan
I guess you could try an ASUS TUSL2-C mainboard. I run a ASUS CUSL2 in my rig. Very stable board but you probably won't need the onboard video so I would go with the TUSL2-C since you can also upgrade to a Tualatin later on. I haven't had too much of a good experience with most of Soyo's mainboards and Abit is just about as good as the Gigabyte boards. I would try to look for a i815ep chipset based mainboard since they run cheaper than the i815e boards. Don't forget to get a soundcard for the system.

the TUSL2-C is the best one for you, since your are going for P-III 1.2 GHz, which comes only with the Tualatin core and is supported by TUSL2-C. You have the display card already, so it fits just fine.

That's what it was. The Tualatin . Kinda funny you mention the Asus Tusl2-C because I was looking at that one yesterday. Alright, it's settled, I'll get the Asus then. Thanks a bunch guys and another thing, I won't forget the sound card
Just as an update for this string, DDR333 chipsets are available now for the P4 such as the very nice SIS645 and some DDR266+ motherboards using the VIA P42266 (sp?) are also available along with the lesser performing i845 SDRAM chipset from Intel.
Good Luck, Take-Out
