768MB RAM on Abit BE6 = Freeze

I just bought 3 256MB memory modules to upgrade my Abit BE6.

The modules are generic 256MB PC133 SDRAM, CAS Level 3, 32x64 density. The system runs fine with any one or two out of three installed, but freezes at the 'UPDATE ESCD' prompt before booting from the hard disk with all three modules installed.

I tried tinkering with the bios, such as CAS levels, Precharge settings, and even forcing ESCD preset. No dice.

HELP! Abit can't help me. They're treating me like a leper cause I have a board not made in this decade.

Thanks

You got a friend(s) that can lend you some sticks to try?

Cheers,

If you loan a friend $20 & never see them again, it was worth it.

maybe you should try cacheman. I had this prob a week ago though i did manage to get into win98 and MindBuster recomended it to me. It fixed the prob. If you cant get it to boot, remove astick of ram or two and it should boot.

   :frown:
