Subject says it all. Phone has a feature called "driving mode" but I
can't find it explained in any detail in any of the documentation that
came with the phone except that's it for hands-free operation. What
does this do exactly?
Archived from groups: alt.cellular.verizon (More info?)
It's on the voice commands menu.
"Driving: Switches the hands-free driving mode on and off." ("78" in the
user manual)
See also "99" in the manual.
"Allows you to switch hands-free calling on and off during driving without
the need for a hands-free kit."
"Note: When flip is closed, you can press the voice dial key for 3 seconds
to set driving mode"

This much I know. But how do I use it? Once I'm in driving mode, how
do I make and receive calls hands-free?

Since it is on the voice commands menu, I would presume you need to check
out voice dialing and speakerphone.
Archived from groups: alt.cellular.verizon (More info?)
When the phone is in driving mode:
1. The phone is automatically switched into speakerphone mode.
2. Opening the phone automatically puts the phone in voice command mode.
Open the phone and it asks for a voice command.
Thus, if you're in driving mode and you want to make a call, you simply
flip it open. The phone's speaker asks for a voice command. (BTW, in my
limited experience I find the "Digit Dial" command has better voice
recognition than "Contacts...[name]" command.)
If you receive an incoming call while you're in driving mode, all you do
is flip the phone open and it automatically answers the call in
speakerphone mode.
Also, when the phone is closed you can switch the phone into driving
mode by pressing and holding the microphone button (the smaller, lower
button on the left side. Pressing and holding it again switches it back
into normal mode.

While reviewing a post about activating the Driving Mode, (see below) I
discovered that if, for whatever reason, you press and hold the same
button, the smaller lower left button, (while the phone is open) you'll
put the phone into memo mode and you'll record the conversation of the
person on the other end of a call.
I discovered this when I was testing the Driving Mode. But instead of
pressing and holding the button while the phone was closed, I did it
when it was open. The message on the phone was that the memo was "full".
When I played back what was recorded, I learned that is was my
conversation of 3 days ago. Only the voice of the caller was
recorded???? Apparently I inadvertently pressed and held that button
while I was on the call.

Mark,
I have asked this same question in the past and never got a response. I
agree the manual don't offer much help. One would think someone out there
has figured out how to use this feature and would be wiling to share the
info.

Driving Mode automatically announces to you who is calling from the
speakerphone. You can say "Accept" to take the call; otherwise it goes to
voice mail. It also turns on your voice commands so that you can use/say
"digit dial" or "schedule", etc.. (see voice command menu) to have other
functions work on voice command.

Dave,
Thanks for the info, it's more than I got from CS. One last question. Can it
be used hands free w/speakerphone? Do you leave the phone open or closed to
do this and lastly do you still need to push the button to activate issuing
a voice command?
Thanks,
Don

Yes, it can definitely be used "hands-free" w/ the speakerphone. You'll
need to leave the phone open; in theory the phone can be closed, but then I
believe the caller may here a bit of an echo. So instead, just open the
phone.
I believe if you flip the clam shell closed and then open, it'll ask you for
a voice command. Alternatively, you may be able to push one of the side
buttons to give a voice command; I'm not to sure about that one, but it
would be easy to find out, of course.
