I would like to upgrade this what is the max cpu the standard
board for the K6-2 and will i have to change the lot to upgrade?

You would have to upgrade the motheboard to change to any other CPU other then a K6 or an Intel processor. The motherboard you are using is a Super Socket 7 board and the newer processors have different socket designs.

Most boards that take the 300 will also support the K6-2 500. The 550 is the "fastest" K6-2, but many people report that it has not performed better than the 500 (I don't know why).

I guess the older K6-II 300 has a FSB of 66 MHz, while the newer K6-II 550 has 100 MHz. I doubt you have a board supporting 100 MHz.

The best you can do is get a 450 MHz processor, and work it at 6x83 = 498 MHz. setting the multiplier to 2x will give you 6x, that for all K6-IIs above 350 MHz.

Most but not all. Some of the k6-2 300's had a fsb of 66 mhz. what is needed here is the motherboard model. If it is possible a k6-2+ or k6-3+ would be the best choice, providing the motherboard supported it.

yes, I assumed the worst. If its a 100 MHz K6-II then he is in luck, he doesnt have to do stunts like 83x6=498~500!
