ChkDsk Problem?

Every time I run ChkDsk (usually about once a week) it finds and corrects
unused index and security descriptors. The system reboots and I get a lot of
extra disk activity even before I reach the prompt to log in. After I log in
it continues right through my start up programs and it take a long time
before the task bar fully appears. When it finally loads I find the computer
is really sluggish and doesn't respond well. If I look in the events viewer I
see that sometimes services don't start and occasionally some of my start up
items as well. If I reboot a second time things seem to clear up but not
always. I have done a full scan on both partitions and found no bad sectors.
I'm kind of baffled as to what might be going on. I run Windows XP SP 2 with
up-to-date, antvirus, firewall, and a spyware guard. I use a VAIO notebook
plenty of RAM and a 60 GB hard drive partitioned. Any thought or ideas would
greatly be appreciated.

Thanks a lot!

If you're finding errors weekly then the drive may be failing. You can
download a diagnostic utility from the drive manufacturer's web site. The
services not starting may or may not be related.
