Besides virusses, there are a number of other "malwares"
Download "Hitmanpro" and let it run on your system.
Or use Adaware and Spybot Search&Destroy
Also Clear de Registry ( use i.e RegSeeker)
Scan and defrag the hard drive.

Open "Task Manager" and have a look at the processes that eat up computer
time!
Look also on any rogue applications that need RAM and/or CPU cycles.

Great post Shenan, really good information and put together in an easy to
read format. Worth keeping in archive. I hope you don't mind me quoting you
now and again. I see lots of people putting scribes together which are
really good but your post really encompasses some timely issues for
neophytes and experienced users.

I've been away for a couple days and was pleasantly surprised to see these
useful and informative replies. I have printed them out and hope to
implement them. I will update you on my progress. Btw, I have 386mb of
RAM, and was just told I should have at least a gig! (I'm a graphic
designer, 2D and web) I remember when 40mb cost $800.00...............
