Hi!

My current rig should run BF3 at 60 fps on low easily (lots of reports on the web), but in reality it drops below 30 fps a lot.

My specs:

PSU: 450W Chieftec

MOBO: Asus P5B

Graphics Card: Radeon HD4890 2GB VaporX graphics card

RAM: 4GB @ 800MHz

CPU:Core 2 Quad Q6600 @2.40 GHz

I have upgraded my drivers to the latest Preview drivers for ATI.

I reinstalled Windows for this game, no FPS boost.

Here's a screenshot of the program Sysspec: http://i.imgur.com/cx0kF.png

What could be the cause of this problem? What part(s) of my PC do I need to check/repair/switch to gain a good framerate? Surely my card is not the problem, or is it?

I really hope you can help me out here!

Thanks,
Jeff

I have the same problem with my 4890 and q6600 3,3 GHz, fps drops to around 30 when there are a lot of buildings, doesn't matter if my settings are on low or high and when this occurs my gpu usage drops to 60%.

I thought the 4890 smoked the 6770 (which is just an improved 5770).

Hell, except for bad drivers, heat problems, and lack of DX11, even the 4870 smoked the 5770, IMO.

The 4870 vs 5770:

The HD 4890 vs 5770 (could not find the 6770):

^Results could differ, as the 6XXX serious handles tessellation and textures somewhat more effectively.

In some cases, it seems as though performance difference is significant. I run an HD 6750 and tried BF3 on it (Beta and final game). At low settings @ 1600x900, I usually get 20 to 40FPS (40FPS is usually in less intense points of the game).

@OP In the Catalyst Control Center, turn all graphic options down to the lowest settings. See if that helps. They tend to be a waste IMO.

OP I saw an increase in avg FPS from ~30 up to ~60 running at high settings on 1080p by overclocking CPU from 2.4 to 3.0 Ghz. It's with a different graphics card of course so the bottlenecks may be different but it's worth considering a CPU overclock.

i also have a q6600@ stock 2.4 clock with a gtx570 and 3 gigs of ram. i lag when near an enemy or in a jet, stuff like that. i currently have the newest nvidia drivers installed. i believe the cpu is at fault. when monitoring its just about at 100 percent. ram is deff at 100 percent. im too poor to upgrade cpu and cant oc cause i have a hp mobo thats locked. im sol right nowand cant upgrade to an i7. if i get a p5q mobo for oc and 6gb ram wil it not lag at all? i dont want to save up and waist my money if its not going to help alot. new cpu is out of the question expense wise.

Just save up then. Turn down a few settings. For the time, it should last.

I agree that it must be your cpu. I have a 6970 - but with the best cpu for gaming on the market I max BF3 @ 50fps.
