I would Like to boot to my CD to install winXp. In the Bios {award} on the A7V133 mobo when I enter to see the options to boot to, there is no option for CR Rom. The options are; legacy,LS120,zip 100, Atapi mo ,USB FDD, USB Zip. Waht is Atapi Mo? I tried that option and it would not boot to my CD Rom. I disabled #1 and #2 and left the CD Rom enabled and it would then boot to the CD. The only problem I see there is with my HD disabled windows XP wil not find it to install to. I was told that most off the New Mobo's Bios have the option to Let you select the CD to boot to. By the way what is Atapi Mo? If you can help thanks Bruce. PS. The only other option I have is to Boot to my win98 rescue floppy and boot upD Rom support, and then install winxp from there. I am not sure that will work with Win XP. Thanks again.Bruce

mo: well an MO disk is a magneto-optical disk, which i think is a disk that is written to magnetically, and read optically, maybe a bit like a MiniDisc? probably only really found on fairly old big computer systems. maybe.

cant you just use a boot disk? there are sites that have the files on the web, search. all you need is a boot disk to stick you at the dos prompt and enable generic cdrom drivers, i cant see why (i dont know though - NOT PROMISING!) a W95 boot disk wouldnt work.i think its ridiculous OS CD's dont come with a boot disk, like they EXPECT everybody to go to a 'net cafe and work it all out, all itd cost them is 10p/c for a bloody floppy...

Thanks for the quick reply. I will probaly use my 98 boot disk and boot with CD Rom support.I just built this pC with the Asus A7V133. I put a AMD 1.4 cpu in. I have to leavr the MObo jumperless and go to the Bios and set it to user define to get the right speed out of the CPu. Thanks Again for the answer. Bruce

Did you buy XP? If so, then it should boot up from CD-Rom. In the BIOS, (page 79), for ATAPI CD-ROM, when you try to change "None", it should give options for your CD-ROM. If not, it's not enabled on the Main page (p. 54). Check every Primary and Secondary channel to make sure it'll be detected (Set it to auto if you have a device at that channel). Then, if you go back to that other menu, it should let you select it.

If you downloaded an ISO image of WinXP from the internet, it's cracked (of course) so you don't have to activate it. So, chances are it isn't bootable. To make it so, go here:

(I basically applied that second part to my recent situation last night. I hope it's the same...)

FYI: A boot disk didn't let me run setup from the CD. I had to do the steps I found from that website. It doesn't take that long. If you got a fast burner, it'll be fine.
