I try it in this forum again, because I get poor replies.

I have an Asus A7V266 with XP1500+ and use a Dragon ORB3 cooler. My problem is the noise of the cooler. The cooler specification is 7000 upm wit 35 db, this must be very noisy, but I thought the matherboard will adjust the fan spin and put it down in normal situations, in case of the cool has some cooling reserves. The CPU temperature is at 41 to 50 degrees, but the fan spin is continuous high, also on using Probe “smart fan” option. Does anybody know why the spin control does not work ?

i have no idea about that but i can tell you theres a dragon orb low noise also from thermaltake that is 4900rpm so a bit quieter, and theres always the newish Volcano 7 (again, ThermalTake) that supposably really does adjust the fan according to heat and so is only as noisy as it needs to be.

41-50C is still too hot which is why its spinning. try and increase the ventilation in the case somehow.

Dave, (I know this is deviating from the thread a bit, sorry about that) what's your view on correct temperature? I ask because I'm currently settling my new rig in and want to get a view of what's "acceptable" heat before I start messing with overclocking. So far I'm sitting at 35 when idle and up to 40 when running Burn6 at 100%.

For overclocking 50 deg celsius is the common accepted FULL LOAD max temp.

from what ive picked up from posts (i am by no means knowledgeable on this suject! really i should shut up now) i think about 30-35C is pretty normal, though its proly ok for it to get up to maybe 50C for short periods without reducing life of CPU. i gather it'll take quite a lot of heat before it actually gets killed. i still dont think that particular fan is meant to adjust speed anyway, unless maybe the mobo does it by reducing the power it sends to it anyway.

when i said 40-50C is too hot (in original post) i meant that its too hot for the fan to want to slow down, if it did the temp would jump up into dangerous heat. Im a bit concerned now about the performance of D-Orb as ive got most bits for new system and have the low noise version myself! Try things like putting the case in a more open area, and using plastic tie-rips to keep internal cables out of the way and so improve internal air flow.
