How many f you read the article David Stellmack put together on the LAN in Buffalo?
<A HREF="http://www.tomshardware.com/game/20030111/index.html" target="_new">"The Winter Fragnation Event - A LAN Party of the Future?"</A>
1. What do you think about the article?
2. How many of you here went and what did you think?
3. If THG did an event would you go? (It is going to happen)
4. What would you want in an event?

I initially thought that all along, it WAS a THGC event, turns out not.
Anyways, my comments are positive:
1) I loved it! It was filled with visuals which is something I work very well with. I very much apperciate Stellmack's articles the most here, and he never disappoints me with his very realistic language. I think he made any bad point of the LAN party becoming a good point.
2)Didn't go, and really, LAN party preparation and all that has never been anything I am really willing to put up with. But I would love to just attend and feel the atmosphere.
Please no l33t h4x0r people! (unfortunatly there will always be, especially in LAN parties with CS)
3) I would attend if it were close to us, in Hull Québec, or if I was taking a trip nearby.
4) Mainly like Fragnation, making sure everyone comes out happy, less empty-handed. IMO making the places easier, increasing security, and the feel that your equipment is safe even while you sleep is a must. IMO to make LAN parties as big as this, be comfortable to anyone, we want to avoid less insecurity, like David who had to go to a hotel. So as I said, full time security at night, and perhaps create dorms or something so each group, team or individual can rest happily would be nice. It's a bit calling for luxury, but hey, it's all evolution!
Overall I liked the article.

1. Really good article, with nice examples of the Fragnation atmosphere.
2. I couldn't come.
3. If I'm in the US this Summer I will try to come... the only problem is that I don't think that I can take my own PC with me.
4. The Fragnation LAN party way sounds very good... and wasn't there a price for the one that did traffel the longest distant?
My PC eats so much money that I'm in 'desperate' need of it to buy PC3500 RAM, help Svol with his OC project!

Try to set the next one up in Detroit or Chicago. Detroit is 3.5 hours southwest of me, Chicago is 7 hours southeast of me. Of course I'd prefer Detroit.
Want a large area that's a little less crowded? Try one of the smaller towns north of Indianapolis.

I have a Life (TM), and thus cannot spend 16 hours a day sharpening my fragging skills.
Its a occupation for lazy kiddies

Or that it is cheap to get in the party while having a high probablility of walking away with some good loot?

Im 27.
The problem i find (apart from lack of time to practice and rotten ping) is that people who play online are allways much younger and thus far far better than i at fragging, to the point of rediculousness, so online gameplay soon looses its appeal.
Spawn, headshot, die... spawn, headshot, die... gets very booring very quickly.
And i dont really care too much practicing against bots, thats even more boring and i dont feel compelled to increase the difficulty level.
So what i need are "noob servers" with people of medium to mediocre skill. The best fraggin fun i ever had was when me and some grad residence peeps got UT working on our Lan connected PC's. each person in their own room. We all were older than 24, of muddling skill, but equal, and thus our fragfests were quite balanced, very fun and seriously addictive!
Nothing like CTF_face and making it home to base with 1 health point left!

When you are a 13 year old it is easy to become proficient at fraggin people. They waste most of their day online killing people. It's sad. Now gaming in general can be a great thing. It can be a way to play painball in the winter, a way for friends to hang out, a way to meet new people, etc.

hehehehe while playing UT in its heydays i could not believe the number of kiddies i came upon that boasted that they were number 1 to 10 in the UT fragging rankings at some stage...
It get very embarrising... like being in a "show your penis" competition where none of then entrants are over 3" in length.
Of couse to their procclimation of fragging ability/penis size i said "So what? Ive got a life". That very predictably made them angry as hell, and in response fragged me a dozen times in quick sucession to show me the error of my ways.
