I have the following system:
i5 2500k @ stock
XFX 2GB 6950 at stock
8 gb DDR3 1333mhz ram
7200rpm HDD

I'm running BF3 on 1920 x 1080. On low settings, I get only 50 fps and on ultra I get 20-30 fps.
This is horrible compared to the benchmarks of my system specs. On youtube itself, tons of people are getting 60fps on ultra, with similar specs, if not slightly worse( once person's CPU was the Phenom X4 955 BE). I know I'm running everything at stock, but shouldn't I be getting at least 40 fps on ultra without overclocking? I'm getting mid 20s to low 20s with occasional 30s...

I have the Q6600, HD6950 and also run at 1080p. I had an overclock issue during the beta which meant that at 2.4Ghz I was getting 30fps on high whereas at 3.0Ghz I was getting 60fps on high, so base CPU speed is a factor but the i5 should be besting the Q6600. You should be getting better. Look and see if you are maxing out either your CPU or GPU while playing to see if you can identify the cause of the slow down. You have the lastest drivers I assume?

Thank you for the reply, I do have the latest drivers. I found out the cause of the problem to be because of morphological filtering turned on in catalyst control center. I am now getting 50-60fps on ultra, so I guess problem solved :)
Thanks anyways

Thanks, dude. I was having a problem with Skyrim reaching 5fps near the cities and that was the problem. I will try to spread the solution.
