Moving on Up - Buying a House in a Nice Neighborhood

I see that some of the more upscale places to live in Qeynos are in
zones like Qeynos Harbor and South Qeynos. I'm not so sure about
North Qeynos. My question is, why would anyone want to live in these
zones? Only Qeynos Harbor has a mariner's bell and the zones are so
detailed that they take significantly longer to zone into or out of.

It seems to me that I'm in the perfect situation living in Willow
Wood where the bank, the Inn, the Tradeskill instance, and the
mariner's bell are all in close proximity. Why would I want to pay a
platinum piece to buy a house in a zone that would be more
inconvenient?

Still it seems inconvenient. I'm in a guild and I like the idea of us
all living in a guild hall. I know that there are things in the game
you need Social Points for but from what I've seen so far- like quest
items being of finer quality than crafted items (through level 20 at
least)- I am not convinced that living in these areas are worth the
inconvenience of being one more zone away from the action.

I keep thinking that there must be some benefit to having all this
money. I just reached level 16 in tradeskill and started making maple
boxes which are netting me about 80 sp a night. But there's nothing to
spend the money on. To me NQ would be the worst place to live just
because there's no Mariner's bell and takes too long to get into and
out of. How could there be such a deep flaw in designing this game?

Prestige. Those homes (as I understand it) are mainly for guildhalls. I
don't think one person (unless they played to a zombie state) could afford
the upkeep in status and plat for (some of) those houses.

No wonder nobody comes here--it's too crowded.

You can put more items into a more expensive house. And you can apparently have
more than one person selling stuff from the larger houses, so that people don't
have to sit by themselves while they're selling.

If none of those matter too much to you, then there isn't really much advantage
to a more expensive house.

I'm thinking about getting a 2 room apartment in Qeynos Harbour -
twice as many items as a single room, and rest isn't too bad.

Use the Down Below as a shortcut.

What he said! I had to get from the Peat Bog to North Qeynos to complete a
step in the Priest's level 10 quest. A fellow priest and I did the work in
the Bog together. Now we need to get to North Qeynos...long run eh? Not
so, into Vermin's Snye, across the pool to Down Below, across the stream to
North Qeynos. 20 steps from Peat Bog. The little Dwarf was dancing and
hooting he was so pleased that he had learned a new short cut. Thanked me
profusely, saying that he did not look forward to running through Starcrest
or Nettleview only to have to run ALL the way across North Qeynos as well.
This way where were within sight of the grove of the Hierophant.
