With all the new chipsets available, which one would you recommend? I'm currently on a KT133A with a 1gig T'bird. I know there was a chipset comparative review a few years ago, but today, everyone's leapfrogging everyone else with new releases (Apollo KT266A superceding the KT266).
With the options available today, i.e. AMD760, KT266A, ALi Magik 1, SiS 735 and the new nForce, which one do you all rate?
I'm thinking of upgrading over the next few months or so to a new xp chip, and go ddr. amd760 or kt266a or nForce? which one would you choose?

Please try and give some comparative results and please don't just say "x is the best 'cos it's what I have!"

Many thanks. I look forward to hearing all your ideas and comments on what you have.

If you still didn't get it, I suggest the SiS735 chipset, and maybe the Ali Magik 1(revision C) if it is as reliable as it's predecessor.
BTW--i don't own either, so I am not being bias...however, i have tested/played around with a few 735 based boards.

The AMD 760 is already outdated, the KT266A is well, what can I say? it's VIA!--they have a bad history of incompatabilities and stability issues dating back to their first Intel chipsets! With nForce, hmmmm....although their performance is great, we still don't know how stable and compatable it is. You should probably wait for others to jump in the water with that board before you do....but it is starting to shape up like a good inexpensive all-in-one board.

thanks for that quick reply.
I'll do a bit of shopping around to see prices (SiS does seem to be cheaper than the Via alternative).

I was j/k about the nerdy "I have this so I'm biassed and it's the BESTEST board around"! ;)

but thanks for the feedback.

I know that Via has had some problems in the past but they were the first chipset to run a P4. It could say something for Tiawan's #1 chipset producer. (Not a biased comment just a fact.)

So if you are looking for speed it is by far the Via KT266A Chipset. For known stability it is the AMD and the SIS. The Nvidia is not proven and is not as fast as the Via. So in other words, "The choice is yours."
