This isn't so much a problem as something I have noticed in add or remove
programs. I have noticed that some of the hot fixes showing up as installed
in the add remove programs section are showing a different icon to the
rest. The rest have a small computer icon but these have what can only be
described as a small orange maze like logo. The size on each is showing up
as 302 mb for each one despite the fact that they are small fixes. Whats
happened here? Fixes I have seen before always had the small computer icon.

Don't worry about it, it's normal. It's all guess work.

It takes the words from the A/R entry and looks on Start for matching words in the entries there. The entry with the most words matching is considered a match. This gives you frequency and icon. It repeats the process for Program Files folder to get size.

Despite the fact it is often wrong corporate customers demand this wrong infomation.

It is probably matching to Microsoft's Office folder in Program Files.

Note:Setup programs can advise Windows of what icon to use, the folder to match or show a specified size.
