I've been on Something Awful forums since back in the day, and thought of something. On sa, we occasionally do cd swaps, where people submit their address and stuff, and it kinda works like a Secret Santa. The site admin or whoever, assigns certain people to certain people. You just make a nice little Music or Data cd, with a personalized cover and fun stuff like that, to the person you're assigned to. And of course you receive one in return.
If anyone would be interested in doing something like this here, that would be great. It's fun as hell getting a cd in the mail, and laughing your ass off at it. The last one I've gotten (I've got 3 total) was filled with nothing but episodes of Kids in the Hall.
Lemme know what you guys think about this, because it could be loads of fun.
I know it could be a bit of hassle mailing to Finland or something, but it doesn't cost a whole lot more to. I've gotten one from the Czech Republic before, kicked some serious ass.
And I've had the name namek0 (said nam ehk zero, not name koh) since junior high, and I'm too stubborn to change it. Let me say also that I hate the dbz on Cartoon Network, just about anything dubbed, especially on cn, is crap. Keep it in Japanese I say. That goes for all anime. And sometimes, if I feel like I'm being seen as a little 8 year old kid with my name, I'll use Keman or something (which is namek backwards btw)
LOL... well I'm so used to dubbed DBZ that it is all I watch. A lot of DBZ episodes on the internet are of so low quality you can't read the subtitles. Do you know a good place where I can find the Kid Buu saga episodes... CN is rerunning older ones again before continuing.
My dual-PSU PC is so powerfull that the neighbourhood dimms when I turn it on
I got mine from an on Hotline server which has now gone under. Most of mine are like a 4 to 6 out of 10 quality, but a few of them are pretty damn good. This could be a good cd swap here, speaking of the main topic. Me an a guy in new jersey have been sending things back and forth for 2 years now. I'd be game to do it again if you're intersted
I cannot stress enough how much a cd swap on the forums would kick ass. It's incredible fun, and exciting as anything you can imagine
My friend (i do not have broardband (i hope the board of directors at BT die a slowly and painfully for this) so he has to do this for me) gets it from anime1 on irc.
also, namek0, for most anime i would say always keep it in Japanese. but DBZ in jap is cr@p the english dub is much better.
[edit]the files he gets are 200+MB .avi so they are dvd qualty[/edit]
Now thats what I want to know!
Edited by secretninja on 01/18/03 02:30 AM.

I don't know if I'd go as far as to call them crap, heh.
Another anime that some people I know debate over is Cowboy Bebop. I started watching it dubbed I'll admit, but after watching one subbed episode, I'll never go back to dubbed. My main issue with dubbing is the changing of words or phrases to make them fit the animation. That's just not cool.
Although some stuff I do love the dubbed versions. A few examples are Trigun, Akira, and Ghost in the Shell.
Some I know have been dubbed, and I couldn't stand watching them dubbed. A great example of this is Love Hina. It would be so freaky hearing their voices in English
About the cd-swap idea though, I would love (cannot stress this enough) to do this. It's so much fun getting strange movies/music from far away lands (or states, heh)
i have only seen cowbob bebop subbed, would hate to think of what it was like dubbed. like wise live hina, full metal panic and chobits. i saw one dubbed escaflownie and that was dredfull since i was able to do a back to back with the subbed one. if i possable i like subbed suff normaly. i think he only thing that is much better dubbed is dbz.
dont know if i have said this yet but the cd swap does sound good. (i could try out some new anime )
I didn't even think about Full Metal Panic, but you're right it would suck dubbed.
I wish more people would speak up about the cd swap. Hell, doing a swap is how I first watched Full Metal Panic and Initial D
And I think getting a cd from Wingding would be crazy cool. Be cool getting some psycho porn or something, hah. Nothing nasty like grandmas though, eww
true. for the pure shock value alone its worth it. and then for grabing bits to replace the crappy credits in films its even better. ha ha ha! just think of the poor guys face when he downloads his fave film to find at the end its dead water buffalo porn, he he.
A little before Christmas, my brother was showing me this clip on his computer. It was called "doom3preview"
I was like "awesome, a doom 3 preview"
It started off with an interview with a wtc family victim while playing sappy music in the background, then erratically jumped to 2 under 18 guys engaging in some exciting salad tossing. Eww
I'm feeling pretty hardcore this weekend, I don't have to work. I've got a lot of time to do some stuff
Anyone, and I mean anyone (including grannies) who wants to do a music/data cd swap, throw me a pm with some basic stuff. Like whether you'd like to do a music or data, and whether you would prefer to get a music or data. I'll have my cat choose at random or something for the final results. I can understand if people don't want to send me there addresses. Since I don't give a rats ass who gets mine, I'd be willing to give it to anyone that asks.
Think really hard about this, especially for people without ready access to anything higher than a dialup. Full length tv shows (porn?), ripped games, emulation, crap-loads of mp3s, etc
