monitor periodically showing "no signal" upon waking from ..

Twice in the past two weeks, our HP desktop has woken from hibernate with a
"no signal" message to the monitor. I've successfully turned the machine off
by holding the on button then rebooting and all seems okay. I am corious
what's happening and if it is the warning shots of some horrible event to
come. What diagnostic tools might help me diagnose the issue? I am checking
the event viewer this evening per an earlier suggestion.

Other info, there have been no special events in the PCs life recently e.g.
no moves. Last weekend I installed a new printer and photoshop but the first
freeze happened before these events and the second freeze happened after.
The machine is about 15 months old.

Thanks for pointing me to this tool. The diagnostics said the monitor has a
problem with mode. I am looking more into what to do about it, but I can
rest easy that it's not my hard drive about to meltdown.
