In my new comp I will be using 1 hard drive, 1 DVD-rom and 1 CD-RW. Which IDE channel should each go on and which should be master and slave? I was thinking to put the HD on channel 1 as master and DVD-rom as slave, then giving CD-RW master on channel 2 but I read that this slows down the hard drive?

I would go with the HD on your primary IDE channel and your ROM's on the secondary channel with your CDRW as your master with your DVDrom as your slave. That is if burning is more important than movie playback. I don't recommend having the DVDrom as slave on the same channel as your HD. Hope this helps.

If you're going to be doing a lot of on-the-fly burning, keep the two optical drives on separate channels. Otherwise, if you use your DVD player a lot to view movies, keep that DVD on a separate channel from your hard drive.
