For some months I have had a information box flashing up which says
'0x019c4ce0 cannot read press OK to terminate'. I press OK and carry on work,
but this box comes-up each time I use the PC.

Also since updating Norton Internet Security I have been unable to access
Word attachments and Word is very slow (approx 3-5 minutes) to open. Any
ideas?

The problem may be that Norton Antivirus is scanning any Word or other
Office document that you open (although it shouldn't be taking this
long even then). There is a setting in "Options" that tells Norton to
do this. You can safely disable it as long as you are otherwise
running real-time scanning as well as regular manual scans (Symantec
schedules weekly scans on Friday nights by default).

The item Ken is referring to is called Office Plug-in in the Other (
Miscellaneous ) section of "Options".
