Hello

Found this vaule combo pack on www.aira.co.uk for £191.53
It's combo 10 on this page:
http://www.aria.co.uk/ProductsList.asp?Submit=Search&Category=53

It includes:
AMD Athlon 1333Mhz (266FSB)
GlobalWin FOP32-1 Heatsink and Fan
256Mb DDR SDRAM
Elite K7S5A

Is that decent value for £191?
Im a collage bum so im on a budget.

Just need a case and a vid card, do I need more fans or is the heatsink and fan included the vaule pack good enough for the job?

Any recomendations regarding a case and posibally more fans?

No need for componants such as:
monitor
speakers
key board & mouse
hard disk drive
power and ribbon cables
cd rw & dvd rom
floppy drive
extra ram
Because I can just take these from the system i allready have, which is bad for new games and other programs..its from Time Computers:(

althlon 700
384mb sdram (i added a 256mb pc133 to the pc100 128mb)
bad mobo (onboard video with no agp slot!)
27 gig hdd
and a case which is hard to work with

So as you can see its time for a new pc..
Any help appreciated, thanks.

that is a good heatsink...
unfortunately, i cannot comment on that price, since i dont know the conversion rates...but if it seems like a good deal, and that was the best you could find, then it sounds good.
and if you are buying a combo, then if there is something wrong, it should be easier to deal with a return.

after xmas, there should[/url] be a drop in most prices for hardware. just because of the sudden drop in demand.
wait a week or so after christmas, and then check prices again.
SHOULD be cheaper...but not guaranteed...
i hope that it gets cheaper...i am hoping on upgrading to an athlonxp after the holidays....

Which in my opoin is quite cheap. Lets see how much all this is after xmas.

Heres what I came up with going of that www.aira.co.uk

1)£293.23 (WITHOUT REQUIRED VID CARD)

2)£310.86(INCLUDING BUDGET VIDEO CARD)

3)£354.51(NVIDIA GEFORCE 2 MX-400 64MB AGP)

4)£515.31(ATI RADEON 8500LE 64MB DDR AGP)

Option 1 has no vid card so would have to nick agp vid card from bros pc but since its a vid card he might know its missing
Option 2 has a bad vid card so cant play games.
Option 3 has decent video card (much better performance than have now).
Option 4 has very good video card but at a total of £515.31 costs too much.

I am going with option 3 @ £354.51

Does everybody put so much research into the componants for there first pc they build or am i just insane?
Edited by TheFunkeyMonkey on 12/15/01 10:33 PM.

well, to tell the truth, i put this much research into building the computer i have now, which is the 4th one that i have built for myself...
i wanted to make sure that i was not getting ripped off, and that i was going to get a good computer.

the choice you have chosen....(odd wording there..hehe)....is a good choice.
even tho the mx-400 isnt going to be the best either, it is definately better than the ati rage...BELIEVE ME!
you might want to check the specs on the tnt2 ultra, and see how much that is.
not sure if it is faster than the mx-400, but crashman might divulge the information.
the agp slot on the k7s5a is agp4x.2x.1x compliant.
so you can use any agp card that is out right now.
and you wouldnt happen to know how much a US dollar is worth compared to a UK pound would you? (sorry i dont know how to make that symbol...)

i had both an old tnt2 ultra (only 32 mb) and a gf mx 400 64 mb in the same computer. the latter provided a very nice graphix boost on my tribes2 game.

According to The Universal Currency Converter one dollar is currently worth about 69 pence in sterling.
