I'm running WinME and recently upgraded my motherboard to an ABIT KG7-RAID. I installed the latest BIOS 10/22/2001 for the KG7 along with AMD 761 drivers v4.80 (10/5/2000).

The kicker, I was doing a fps test in Ghost Recon in 1280 X 1024 32 bit (detail up except shadows) and I was getting about 38 fps on average.

So, I install the VIA 4 into 1 drivers for the VT82C686 version 4.36. Reboot. Go back to Ghost Recon and my fps has now dropped from 38 to 23!!! Rest of my system is running fine along with my games and Return to Castle Wolfenstein is VERY smooth. Anyone run into this problem?

Your problem may be that all 4 of the VIA 4in1 drivers were installed. The AGP driver should NOT have been installed because you have the AMD761 Northbridge. Supposedly the install for 4.36 knows that. So maybe thats not your problem. But it's something to check.

I've had other problems with the 4in1's. I don't know what version it was, but I tried it with my epox 8kta+ and it waxed my harddrive, funny characters and everything. Tried it again once I had made a backup and it happened again. They said make sure your BIOS is updated and of course my BIOS was updated the first time so that didn;t make a difference.

Well the problem is apparently the VIA 4 into 1 v4.36 is NOT compatible with nVidia Detonator v23.11 drivers. To be safe I backed out both VIA v4.36 to v4.35 and nVidia v23.11 to v21.83. Resolved my Ghost Recon fps issue back up to 43 fps, and RtCW is VERY smooth.

your not suppose to install via 4 in 1 drivers on a amd 760 chipset. the only VIA drivers you need involved the south bridge. USB and IDE. IDE i hear it's best to use the standard drivers and usb should be fine the way it is. If you run into problems with usb then install the usb filter drivers.

Other than that you do not need the via 4 in 1 drivers period.

The only way to resolve is to reinstall windows. Sorry but thats the only way around it. Next time do not install the via 4 in 1 drivers.

You need the AMD drivers not the VIA ones. www.amd.com for them drivers.
