Evening all.......im building a pc for a mate and all was going swimmingly until i tried to setup 98se.
Ive ran fdisk and formatted c: then it goes to the setup...it completes the first step but at 'collecting information on your computer' i get this error "Application Error, suwin has caused a general protection fault in module suwin.exe at 0007:24a3".

Would i be right in thinking he's got faulty hardware somewhere along the line due to the general protection error?

I also have another reason for thinking this but i wont let on what it is til i get some feedback going off what ive put already.

Ive tried 2 different 98se boot discs and a WinME boot disc but all the same.

Cheers peeps

Sounds like a memory issue, try setting the memory timings lower, Cas Latency, etc. I once did a VIA/AMD system where I had to disable L2 cache to get it past those errors.

What's the frequency, Kenneth?

If you can get your hands on dos 6.22, and if of course you are still stuck, try installing that.
No GUI, so if it installs then you have more info on your predicament !
