Is it possible for motherboard manufacturers to replace the Nvidia onboard audio with a less expensive version? I've seen some nforce mobos advertised as having a c-media chip, rather than the MCP.

It's integrated into the Southbridge, so it can't be replaced. They might be able to add an extra chip, but I see no reason to.

the asus a7n266 has 6 channel audio instead of nforce dolby sound. it's also a little cheaper than a7n266-e which has the integrated dolby audio in the south bridge.

see for yourself http://www.asus.com.tw/mb/socketa/a7n266/overview.htm#

Where can we get these new nforce motherboards? I'm counting on getting one hopefully by the end of January.

Catheter and Caffeine IV are in place. Let's PLAY.

And the board has an extra chip on it, like I suspected.
