Yes PC2700 is backwards compatibel with PC2100, but your FSB speed will be 266 MHz instead of the 333 MHz the PC2700 was made for; the board can't get any higher without overclocking.

My case has so many fans that it hovers above the ground :eek: .

Yea thanks, I wasn't sure if the MB could take it but overclocking was the idea :)

So a generic pc2700 is better than a crucial pc2100, as its made to run faster, right?

I don't think so there are more things that make memory good.
It will run faster, but if it has the same quality...I don't know.
You could also buy PC2400 (300 MHz) instead of PC2700, but if you plan to upgrade to an 333 MHz board in the future it's best to have PC2700 RAM as you can use then.
