When I try to download or uninstall a program I get a message that reads
"windows installer not working properly"...or something like that. What
should I do?

If you run xp with SP2 thier are no downloads for installer. However try going
to run, type:services.msc In msc, scroll down to installer, double click on it,
then select,auto-run from the manual mode its probably in,then start service,
close out msc.
