I have an XP Home PC and since yesterday I get to the choose user screen and
click on any user, I get the "loading personal settings" message and then
"saving personal settings" followed by "logging off". I cannot get into
windows with any user account, not even in safe mode.

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Does administrator also fail in safe mode?

Have you tried the last known good configuration option yet?

Although your exact situation is not described in this article, you can try
to use it to see if you can get back into the machine:
