Any xp or Pentium 4 cpu will require 350-400 watt power supply. Other cpu's may have no problems with 300 watt. Order from a vender on pricewatch, and get one on AMD's or Intel's recommended list. I also look for one with plenty of vents on the cover for good cooling. A good ps can drop your cpu temps 3-4 degrees.

It is worth to spend extra for an Enermax PSU. A lot of cheap PSU does not provide clean powers to computer and does not even provide the Wattage they are rated.

If you plan on setting up RAID (Either SCSI or IDE) in the future, get the 400 W. AMD boards like to have lot's of juice and they get very picky if you have a bad P/S. As stated above, make sure that it is name brand, Antec, Enermax, Sparkle all make good P/S. A good Battery Backup system, (UPS) is also a must to protect your system. If you buy the greatest P/S in the world, then do not get a UPS for it, your system will still be sesseptable to damage from bad power.

If it works for you then don't fix it.

I would like to Invest for my PC !!
ok, buy nothing.

If you have a 250 watt ps that works well, you don't have to change it right away. But if it is an unknown generic brand ( not sparkle,antec,enermax,powmax,fortran,a1 electronics) you may get occasional re-boots or freezes. That happens to me with my sparkle 235 watt; I'm going to change it out soon for a 350 watt.
