Asus A7M266 and Athlon XP Question

Ok, I was wondering, I was planning on buying a new Asus A7M266 and and
Athlon XP and I was wondering, if I were to buy this board NEW and stick in
the processor would it still boot and show up even though I haven't had the
ability to update the bios to the revision that recognizes the XP proc?
Would the proc just be underclocked and remain underclocked until the bios
was updated successfully?

hey there,
well you have the same problem i do, you see i have just bought an A7M266 and plugged in an XP1800+.
i won't lie to you, the board boots up and posts, it will recognise the multiplier but not the XP, and it will halt on CMOS...so you will not be able to access any I/O device, and so any possibility of flashing the bios will fail with the XP plugged in.
what i did is :i have used an athlon 1200 and flashed the bios(it is available at asus.com) and then i replugged the XP and it is working fine
