Shutdown Vs Standby

Do you shut your computer off, or put it in standby?
I have a high end personal PC. I use it in the morning, afternoon and the evening and usually shut it down. I'm wondering if I should just leave it on. The debate would be the fans running all the time and the ware-an-tar or the ware-an-tare of booting.
Which is best or is it just personal preferences?

i usually dont use standby, because some hardware doesnt like coming out of standby...
i just either leave it on, or shut it off.
most of the time, i leave my computer on...
i think the longest it has been on is 3 days without a restart...(running win 98se )

i leave my puter on all the time i just reboot when i install something. i hate having to wait for it to boot up and soo forth

Good point. I should of said leave on or shut down.
I usually shut it off, but the last couple of nights I though I would try leaving it on. I'm suprise it's been running pretty good using Win98se. I'll leave it on. It will be interesting to see how long before a reboot.
