Hi there all,
I am in the process of building my new machine. It will be a high end gaming machine basically. I currently run the ASUS P2B and of course need to upgrade. The boards that I have in mind are:
ASUS
SuperMicro
ABIT
Iwil

I am in also doing some research and found the ASUS Black Beauty to be in the running. But I figured I would ask the experts. What do you think?

Thanks,
Cujo

Best to start with "what processor". That immediately eliminates certain types of mobo. Then choose (or ask) the best chipset for your needs, be it for gaming, apps, graphics etc.

That is true =) I have heard that for the money the AMD Athlon was the way to go. Although I have never really wanted AMD. Lately I have read some bad things about recalls on PIII and P4s so I dont know. I want something that is over or equal to 1.5ghz. For some of the others I want to get:
GeForce 2
X-Gamer sound card
I wont be OCing it so there are no worries there. I have heard good things about the Dragon by Soyo. /shrug

Thanks for the info though =)

Good board. The <A HREF="http://www.asus.com.tw/mb/socketa/a7v266-e/overview.htm" target="_new"> Asus A7V266-E</A> is a very nice board. It has the Via Technologies KT266A Chipset.

I have never had any serious problems with Asus and they have exceptional support.

For value I'd get an XP1600. As to the mobo, thats up to you. If you're not looking to overclock, I'd get an ECS K7S5A. They're a decent board (although a few people will disagree) with a SiS735 chipset.
