Weekly, I run Disk Cleanup. Make sure the boxes for Compress Old Files,
Temporary Internet Files and Temporary Files are checked. Actually, I check
them all to remove all unwanted items.
Some of the additional space may be taken up by System Restore files. I
generally Turn System Restore off and then back on to remove them. But only
do that if your PC is running good and immediately create a new restore
point. I have done this on numerous machines and have been able to free up as
much as 10GB of space.
Just remember that if you do this, you will no longer be able to restore to
a date before the day you do this.
The last thing that I do is a Disk Defrag. This should help you free up most
of the space although, I can't imagine where the rest of your free space
went. My work PC is pretty bare with SP2 and has 6 GBs used.

How large is your pagefile.sys file? To see the file you may need to
select Start, Control Panel, Folder Options, View, and check box before
Show hidden files and folders and uncheck box before Hide protected
operating system files.
On what partition are your My Documents, Temporary Internet Files and
Outlook Express Store folders.
How much free space do you have after carrying out the housekeeping
suggested by Hjomby?

Hope this helps.

For System Restore the option in Disk CleanUp, More Option to remove all
but the latest Restore Point would be safer.
